The Superintendent of the Isaac A. David Memorial Academy has called on the Government of Liberia(GoL) to provide subsidies to private learning institutions operating across the country.
Speaking at the institution’s 55th Anniversary recently in Paynesville, outside Monrovia, Scholastica Doe said private schools are contributing to the growth of Liberia’s education system and at such it was necessary the government provides assistance to all schools, and stop being selective. It is said the government is providing subsidies to a few private schools, leaving out the others.
Supt. Doe said government schools lack the capacity to accommodate all Liberian students. Some schools, including Isaac David, according to her, are charging minimum tuition fees, and to have what she calls an-almost tuition-free schools perpetually running, the government needs to come in to provide support.
“Government schools do not have the capacity to absorb all the students in the country, that’s why it’s important to subsidize private institutions that are accommodating majority of the student population”.
Scholastica Doe informed the gathering of alumni and students of the school that Isaac is among schools significantly helping to develop Liberia’s future leaders, reechoing the need for the GoL to act immediately.
Meanwhile, this year’s anniversary was marked by series of activities, including football matches and dinner.
