NEC announces Final Voters Roll ….2,471,617 cleared to participate in 2023 Elections

The country’s electoral body, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has announced the final voters’ roll for the ensuing 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

Making the pronouncement Monday, July 17, 2023 at the Headquarters of the Commission, NEC Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Brown Lassaah, said this comes on the heel of conclusion of the exhibition, de-duplication and adjudication process of the 2023 Biometric Voter Registration provisional registration roll.

The NEC boss pointed out that prior the exhibition, the preliminary figure was at 2,498,904, of which 27,192 duplicates records were identified while 529 suspected underage registrants were flagged, and the total active registrants was 2,471.183.

According to her, both active registrants and suspected underage registrants were exhibited during the exhibition period and so with the roll now cleaned, 2,471,617 are qualified to vote on October 10.

Of this number, she disclosed that 1,237,257 are females, while 1,234,360 are males.

“Distinguished stakeholders, fellow Liberians, the Commission, having concluded the exhibition, deduplication and adjudication process of the 2023 Biometric Voter Registration provisional registration roll, I am pleased to announce the final figures of registered voters that will participate in the 10 October 2023 General Elections as: Two Million Four Hundred Seventy-one Thousand Six Hundred Seventeen (2,471,617). This number represents One Million Two Hundred Thirty-seven Thousand Two Hundred Fifty-seven (1,237,257) Females and One Million Two Hundred Thirty-four Thousand Three Hundred Sixty (1,234,360) Males, Detailed disaggregation of these figures are available,” the NEC Chairperson informed Liberians.

Precisely, the Commission on July 14, 2023 completed the candidates’ nomination process hence, a total of 1,030 aspirants submitted nomination documents to the Commission during the process.

Also of this number, she further disclosed that 159 constituting 15 percent are females while 871 or 85 percent are males.

Statistically, Madam Brown Lassanah explained that independent aspirants aspirant constitute 19 percent while aspirants for political parties/coalitions/alliances are 831 or 81 percent.

“As per the electoral timeline, provisional list of candidates will be published on 18 July2023 and the final list will be published on 5 August 2023. In closing, the Commission again thanks and assures all Liberians, all stakeholders and electoral actors that the NEC will continue to work with you to the successful conclusion of the 2023 electoral process,” added the NEC Chair.
