The opposition Movement for One Liberia (MOL) over the weekend officially endorsed the Presidential bid of Unity Party Standard Bearer Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Kpan Koung in the upcoming October 10 Elections.

The program was held at the MOL Party Headquarter in Congo Town, outside Monrovia on Friday, May 26, 2023 and was graced by several members of the opposition Community including Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Kangar-Lawrence, Gbarpolu County Senator Gboto Kanneh, Bong County Senators, Prince K. Moyee and Dr. Henry Tokpah, among others.

Speaking at the occasion, the MOL political leader described the occasion as ” Decision 2023,”saying that the decision was made to support the presidential bid of Boakai-Koung Ticket because the country needs a new and better Liberia.

According to her, until Liberians can work collectively to change the current governance structure that they have in place, the country will never be able to create the change they desire.

“With that said, we are here to announce to the nation that we, the Movement for One Liberia Political Party, have decided to join forces with the Liberty Party, the MDR party and the Unity Party to endorse Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai candidacy for the presidency of the republic of Liberia. Let me ask the question again, how do we, the people, create real change in the nation? Let’s make Amb. Boakai the next president of the Republic of Liberia,” Madam Cooper said.

She said that they believe that Amb. Boakai has heard the cry of the Liberian people and will together with the support of the citizens solve the problems and change the governance structure.

Madam Cooper said the reason to join the rescue train is to help citizens, noting that those in positions of power through elections and appointments have not put the country first instead have put themselves first.

“I know that you have been told over and over, time after time that nothing can change about the current situation in Liberia? You have been told repeatedly that there is no need to try change anything. They say just grab your own and go when you get any opportunity. Ask yourself if they are right then what was the point of independence,” Madam Cooper questioned.

Madam Cooper further told Liberians that the time for real change could not be more urgent than now because the current governance structure in place is a failure and betrayal of the founding purpose of Liberia, which is “The Love of Liberty, Love for country and love the people of Liberia’’.

She claimed that the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change(CDC)is a failure because it is a system that strives for “excellency” names rather excellence performances.

“It is a failure because it is a system that allows people in positions of power to use our government for their own benefit or take state resources for their personal use with impunity. It is a failure because it is a system that makes the presidency to serve as an autocrat, authoritarian a “semi-god” or a Caesar that demands to be hailed even by those who detest him/her. It is failure because it is a system that allows government officials to fight for honorable names rather than honorable characters,” Madam Cooper asserted.

“Most importantly, majority of the population cannot afford school fees. Because of these reasons, this country has gone through stormy times, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of Liberians and hundreds of foreigners including the five Catholic nuns in October 1992. Despite these terrible things that happened to our country including the destruction of infrastructure, those in positions of power have refused to change the governance structure,” Madam Cooper further asserted.

“For you out there, struggling every day under this slavery structure of governance, we feel your struggle. Those in positions of power today believe it is their turn for you the Liberian people to worship them instead of them serving you as the Liberian Constitution requires,” she stated.

“We must put an end to the wrong governance structure. We must make government works for everyone, particularly for you, the ordinary Liberians because you have been left out for decades. Throughout this journey, you have not allowed your spirit to die. You never waver for your desire for true freedom and equal opportunities for better Liberia,” she added.

Accepting the endorsement, the UP Standard Bearer, Ambassador Boakai expressed excitement over the endorsement by the MOL political leader, noting that the rescue mission is a patriotic duty urging everyone joining the team to put country first above personal ambitions.

“Everybody that will come on this train, you got to commit yourself to honesty, commitment, to know that God didn’t make this country just for you. Our job is to lead this country into better hands, an organized country with responsibility, young people that will do things for themselves and build their nation,” he added.
