In a ceremony filled with gratitude and admiration, the youth and residents of Tappita District, Lower Nimba County on Friday, November 22, 2024, honored Dr. Victor Z. Kaizer, Chief Executive Officer of the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital (JFD), for his outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery in the district.
The event, held at the Tappita City Hall, was attended by a cross-section of citizens, including elders, youth, women, students, district leaders, and hospital staff.
Dr. Kaizer was gowned and conferred the title “Gonkarnue,” meaning “man has come,” in recognition of his leadership, which has revitalized the nation’s second referral hospital and inspired confidence in the healthcare system.
The gesture, led by Elder John L. Yelegar on behalf of the elders and citizens, symbolized their deep appreciation for his impactful service.
“Dr. Kaizer is a true leader whose works and interactions with citizens are unprecedented,” Elder Yelegar stated.
He called for the establishment of a health training institute to prepare young people for careers in healthcare, suggesting it be named in Dr. Kaizer’s honor.
“We are proud to gown him today and celebrate his contributions to our district and the nation at large.”
District Superintendent Lombaye Barleah lauded Dr. Kaizer as a transformational leader who has brought significant improvements to healthcare in Tappita.
“The changes under your leadership are undeniable,” Superintendent Barleah said. “We are committed to supporting your efforts to strengthen the district’s healthcare system.”
Youth President Kelvin Gongbay, speaking on behalf of Tappita’s youth, urged Dr. Kaizer to ensure sustainable development by investing in the training of young people.
“Your legacy will endure if the hospital continues to produce prepared and competent individuals to carry on your vision,” Gongbay noted, emphasizing the need for study opportunities for local youth as part of the hospital’s corporate social responsibility.
Dr. Kaizer’s leadership has been marked by significant initiatives to revamp healthcare delivery at JFD Hospital. These include environmental improvements, such as clearing vegetation beneath power lines and organizing monthly hospital cleanups, as well as enhancing operational efficiency through partnerships that ensure a steady supply of medical drugs and equipment.
He has also prioritized community health awareness programs and addressed financial challenges inherited from previous administrations, including settling contractor arrears.
These efforts have been widely credited with restoring the hospital’s reputation as a leading healthcare facility in Liberia.
Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Dr. Kaizer reaffirmed his commitment to the district’s healthcare needs.
“This recognition is a motivation for me to do even more,” he remarked, disclosing that a 40-foot container of medical supplies and equipment from the United States is expected to arrive at JFD Hospital in January 2025.
Dr. Kaizer’s contributions extend beyond his recent appointment by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
He previously served as the hospital’s chief administrator from July 2018 to January 2019 and has an extensive background in healthcare administration and clinical sociology.
His academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration from Virginia University of Lynchburg and advanced degrees in Clinical Sociology and Organizational Leadership.
He also holds a postgraduate certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Kaizer’s leadership is rooted in over 15 years of experience, including roles as a therapist, clinician, and lead clinician in various healthcare facilities in the United States.
This expertise has equipped him to navigate the complexities of managing a referral hospital in a developing context.
For residents of Tappita District, Dr. Kaizer’s efforts are more than administrative; they reflect a personal dedication to improving lives.
“He has restored hope to patients and given us a healthcare system we can trust,” one resident commented during the ceremony.
Community leaders have expressed hope that Dr. Kaizer’s achievements will inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals in Liberia.
The proposed training institute, once established, could serve as a lasting testament to his vision and dedication.
As Tappita continues to benefit from Dr. Kaizer’s initiatives, the district’s residents remain optimistic about the future of healthcare in their region.
“Dr. Kaizer’s leadership has shown us what is possible when vision meets action,” Superintendent Barleah concluded.
The ceremony not only celebrated Dr. Kaizer’s achievements but also underscored the collective responsibility to sustain the progress made under his leadership.
For the people of Tappita, honoring Dr. Kaizer was a way of saying thank you—and ensuring his legacy continues to shape the district’s healthcare landscape for years to come.
