Liberia’s disease control and management body, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has announced the confirmation of 12 new cases of the Mpox virus disease.

Mpox is an infectious disease that can cause a painful rash, enlarged lymph

He also disclosed that since the outbreak, there have been 19 recoveries and zero deaths, thus showcasing NPHIL’s strength for disease readiness.

“We have 22 active cases. They tested and under care and some those are isolated. Also, there have been 41 cumulative cases, 19 recoveries and zero death,” said DG Nyan.

Also on the heel of the rising cases, the NPHIL boss informed Liberians that the nation now has an in-country sequencing capability through the support of its partners including the World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC) and AFRINET among others.

“To, we have 12 new confirmed cases. But the good news is, we have move another step further in revitalizing the public health institute. Recently we sent out samples to do sequencing to Nigeria and that proved the we have the Clad 2(a) of the virus. Today, we can proudly announced today that Liberia now has in-country sequencing capability through. From our testing done here, the Clad 2(b) of the virus was discovered – meaning that we have the two clads of the virus circulating in Liberia. We, ourselves detected Clad 2(b). Thanks to WHO, Africa CDC, CDC and AFRINET for the support.”

“This is a trend in revitalising public health institute in Liberia. We also want to inform you that we are also responding to numerous outbreaks. Lazae fever, yellow fever and others.”

“NPHIL is robust in conducting the preparedness and response. We have been having sporadic cases based on accountability of public health. We have had series of cases, increase.”
