The Press Union of Liberia(PUL) has strongly denounced the barbaric incident that was committed in Bongmines against Journalist Kesselle Sumo of Voice of Fuamah on Monday, March 11, 2024.
In video footage, journalist Sumo was seen being physically assaulted by two men who appeared to be court officers and agents of the Liberia National Drug Enforcement Agency.
Journalist Sumo was brutalized on the alleged orders of Associate Magistrate Lydia Sulunteh with a contempt charge after he interviewed two chiefs who were detained at the Bongmines Police Depot by Magistrate Sulunteh.
According to a press release from the PUL, the violence committed against Journalist Sumo is an insult to justice and the rule of law.
The Union insists that the barbaric and inhumane act must immediately claim the attention of the Liberia National Police and the National Government.
Meanwhile, the PUL added that it will therefore pursue this matter to a logical conclusion.
