Sports lovers, most especially so, followers of the annual sports festival – the National County Sports Meet (NCSM) were left broken by the news over the postponement of the much-publicized 2024/25 NCSM.

The ensuing tournament, which was earlier planned to kick-off on December 15, 2024, was announced postponed by Liberia’s Minister of Youth and Sports Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu during the mid-sunshine of the late afternoon hours of last week Friday.

The annual sports event aims to unite the Liberians and is played among the 15 sub-divisions of the country. Its objective is to scout talents for the various national teams of Liberia, and as such, objectives are key to sports development and peace promotion.

Despite all host cities – Gbarnga, Bong County, Robertsports, Grand Cape Mount County, Greenville, Sinoe County and Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County all being set, Minister Bangalu announced its sudden postponement over plan to make it bigger and better than ever.

He said instead of the kicking off December 15, 2024, it will not kick off January 12, 2025 at the same venues so as to have time to galvanize more funding and to ensure that the venues are completely prepared.

According to him, the Ministry has designed plan to have the tournament in a more special and unique way that will distinguish it from other past versions of the tournament.

“We want to undertake the National County Sports Meet in a very special and unique way, and because we have not satisfactorily completed what is required to make the County Meet that satisfactory, the way we want it, we have decided to give ourselves a few more days. So, instead of the 15th of December, the 2024-2025 County Meet will now commence on January 12, 2025,” Youth and Sports Minister, Jeror Cole Bangalu, stated.

He disclosed that this year’s edition of the NCSM will feature football, kickball, basketball and for the first-time female football.
