A delegation from the Liberia National Police (LNP), led by Inspector General (IG) Gregory Coleman, paid a courtesy call on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on July 29, 2024.

The visit aimed to bolster cooperation between the two nations in areas of law enforcement, peace, and security. Both leaders emphasized the importance of regional collaboration to tackle common challenges such as crime, terrorism, and other security threats.

IG Gregory Coleman expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the significance of such interactions in enhancing the professional capacities of both police forces.

“Strengthening our collaboration is vital for ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. Learning from each other’s experiences and best practices will make us more effective in our duties,” he stated.

During the visit, the Liberian delegation toured several key facilities, including the Ghana Police TV studios and the newly commissioned Ghana Police Shop.

These visits were aimed at understanding the innovative measures adopted by the Ghana Police Service to engage with the public and support their personnel.

The Ghana Police TV studio serves as a crucial platform for disseminating information to the public and enhancing community policing efforts.

It allows the police to provide updates on security issues, crime prevention tips, and other public safety information.

The Liberian delegation was particularly interested in how such a medium could be replicated to improve communication and transparency within their own police force.

The tour of the newly commissioned Ghana Police Shop also provided insights into how the Ghana Police Service is supporting its officers. The shop, which supplies uniforms and other essential police gear, represents a model of efficiency and support that the LNP hopes to implement.

“Ensuring that our officers are well-equipped is fundamental to their ability to perform their duties effectively,” remarked IG Coleman.

IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare welcomed the Liberian delegation and expressed his commitment to deepening the ties between the two police services.

He noted that such exchanges are crucial for building a resilient and adaptive law enforcement network across the region.

“We are delighted to share our experiences and innovations with our Liberian counterparts. This collaboration will undoubtedly enhance our collective capabilities in maintaining law and order,” said Dr. Dampare.

Both leaders also discussed future joint training programs, knowledge exchange initiatives, and strategies to combat cross-border crime. These discussions are expected to lead to formal agreements that will institutionalize the cooperation between the two police forces.

The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of the mutual commitment to regional security and the continuous exchange of ideas and resources. As the delegation prepared to return to Liberia, IG Coleman expressed optimism about the future of their partnership.

“This visit has opened new avenues for collaboration that will benefit both our countries. We look forward to implementing the insights gained here to improve our operations back home,” he said.

The courtesy call and subsequent tours reflect a broader effort by both nations to foster stronger regional security networks. As crime and security threats become increasingly transnational, such partnerships are essential for maintaining peace and stability in West Africa.

The Liberia National Police’s engagement with their Ghanaian counterparts underscores a proactive approach to regional security, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation in addressing shared challenges.
