The Government of Liberia(GoL) has taken another significant step in its ongoing battle against corruption by signing a five-year extension Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Swedish National Audit Office.

The extension aims to bolster capacity building within various audit sectors and human resources development, marking a crucial milestone in Liberia’s commitment to combating corruption.

The collaborative effort seeks to strengthen the capacity development of the General Auditing Commission (GAC), empowering it with enhanced tools and resources to effectively address instances of corruption within the country.

This renewed partnership underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to fostering transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Furthermore, Liberia’s proactive stance against corruption has garnered international recognition, as the country has been appointed as the host country for the 2026, 22nd AFROSAI-E Governing Board Meeting.

This prestigious opportunity not only highlights Liberia’s growing prominence in the fight against corruption, but also signifies its pivotal role within the African auditing community.

In another noteworthy development, the Auditor General of Liberia has been officially designated to represent AFROSAI-E at the upcoming 16th AFROSAI General Assembly, scheduled to take place in December 2024 in Tripoli, Libya.

The Auditor General will address delegates on the topic: “SAI Audit of Grants & Donor Projects,” showcasing Liberia’s expertise and contributions to the advancement of auditing practices within the African region.

Established as the African branch of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), AFROSAI-E plays a pivotal role in facilitating collaboration among its member countries and supporting them in achieving their audit mandates.

By sharing valuable insights and providing crucial support, AFROSAI-E empowers member institutions like the GAC to enhance their performance and drive positive change across the continent.

As Liberia continues to forge partnerships and engage in collaborative efforts both regionally and internationally, its commitment to upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity remains steadfast. With renewed vigor and determination, Liberia stands poised to further strengthen its audit capabilities and lead by example in the ongoing fight against corruption.
