LIBERIA: CUMMINGS SAYS FIRST ROUND WIN IS AN ILLUSION

With former Information Minister Lewis Garsaydeh Brown named to chair a cracked campaign team of the joint opposition political force, the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), the Standard Bearer Alexander Benedict Cummings says it’s illusive for any candidate or party to win first round at the October 10 polls

Particularly, Mr. Cummings indicated that the belief by the folks from the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) is a ‘‘complete nonsense’’ because the ruling establishment has lost its taste.

In execution of Article 77(b) of the Liberian Constitution, eligible Liberian voters will go to the polls on October 10 to elect a President/Vice President, 73 Representatives and 15 Senators with the two former steering the affairs of the state for the next six years and the latter for nine years.

In these elections, President George Manneh Weah, Standard Bearer of the ruling CDC will contest against 18 opposition candidates including Mr. Cummings, alias “ABC” of the CPP for the presidency. With two other political parties, Unity Party (UP) and All Liberian Party (ALP) leaving the arrangement, CPP is now only joint force of the Liberty Party (LP) and the Alternative National Congress (ANC).

Accordingly, speaking to his supporters at the CPP Headquarters in Sinkor, Monrovia on Friday, August 18, 2023 at ceremony marking the naming of his campaign team, Mr. Cummings, who noted that President Weah, who only got 38% of the votes in the first round of the 2017 Elections when he was more popular, has dismally failed as he has done nothing in his first term in office to get the mandate of the people for the first round.

‘‘Do not believe what President Weah and his gangs are saying all around the country that they are going to win the elections on first round. I want to tell the Liberian people that there is no way that the Liberian people will elect him because they have failed the Liberian people big-time,” he stated.

He pointed out that the CPP has the best chance to the Presidency, stressing, an Alexander Cummings/Charlyne Brumskine Leadership is what all Liberians want at this time.

“Charlyne and I are the ones the Liberian people can longer wait to see this country being taken over by because they want qualified and competent leaders like us,” Mr. Cummings told the gathering.

On the start of a new journey to the presidency, the CPP standard bearer asserted that it is only the collective efforts of the Liberian people that will make such dream come true as the leadership’s major goal is to maintain peace among every Liberian.

“I want tell President Weah that it’s his responsibility to protect the peace if anything goes wrong he will be responsible for that,” he averred.

Mr. Cummings further told his supporters and Liberians in general that his choice is a very clean campaign that will propel them to the presidency in January of 2024.

According to him, the CPP is the best choice for the presidency because it has all it takes to develop the country.

Meanwhile, some key members of the campaign team include: former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Planning and Economic Affairs Dr. Togar Gayewea Mclintosh, Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Committee, Mr. Lewis G. Brown, Campaign Chairman and Lafayette Gould Campaign Coordinator/Spokesman.

Others are: former Bong County Senator Henry Willie Yallah, Bong County Campaign Chairman and former Education Minister, George Wisner; Montserrado County Campaign Chairman, among others.
