LIBERIA: BLUE LAKE MANUFECTURING EVADES TAXES

190

Blue Lake Manufacturing, Inc., a company located in Sayon Town on Bushroad Island, meant to produce mayonnaise, is evading taxes by importing eggs in the country under the pretense of importing the eggs for the production of mayonnaise.

The company has a duty free right because the imported eggs are meant to be used only for the purpose of producing mayonnaise and not for sale.

Documents in possession of this paper show that Blue Lake Manufacturing is not supposed to commercialize the eggs imported by the company.

“Request duty free delivery of the above mentioned goods and hereby declare that (1) the particulars set forth above are true and complete, (2) The goods will be used only for the purpose stated, (3) None of the goods will be sold, bartered, lent, hired or otherwise disposed of with, if permission and (4) all custom dy and other taxes will be paid by applicant on any goods sold or otherwise disposed of with.” A document of LRA indicates to Blue Lake Manufacturing.

Despite such warning by the Liberia Revenue Agency, LRA, to Blue Lake Manufacturing, the company is currently engaged in selling the eggs on the Liberian market at lower price, thus disadvantaging others who are paying due taxes to the Government to import eggs.
