LIBERIA: Amb. Kemayah Re-elected As Political Leader of MOVEE
Following the signing of a resolution by all executive members inclusive of all counties’ chairpersons and executives, the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) has re-elected the standard bearer and political leader Dee Maxwell Saah Kemayah on white ballot.
Observed by representatives of the National Elections Commission (NEC), the signed resolution by the executive members was then tested into a motion at the third emergency convention of the party with no one opposing the decision. And following the motion, a white ballot was cast to validate his election. Also, 26 other national positions and 26 auxiliary positions were also cast on white ballots on the outcome of similar resolution.
The third emergency convention of MOVEE was held at the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary in Paynesville, outside Monrovia, with delegates drawn from all 15 counties.
Delivering a special statement following his election, Political Leader Kemayah lauded partisans of MOVEE for their decision and urged them to hold together to hold government to its feet to do the right thing.
As standard bearer of the party, he said MOVEE will uphold all tenants of democracy and rule of law in a bid to maintaining lasting peace.
“We can hold the government’s feet to the fire if we are prepared as a party. As head of this great party, I can assure that MOVEE will uphold all tenants of democracy and the rule of law. We have to do this because we cannot trade peace for anything else. It is through peace that we are here today,” he told partisans amid cheers.
Amb. Kemayah urged all elected officials to serve the party and not be masters of the people.
Despite being elected as standard bearer, he said the party still remains a constituent party of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), and will support former President George Manneh Weah in the 2029 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
“We will support President Weah as the grand standard bearer. We will remain a constituent party of the CDC come 2029,” Amb. Kemayah asserted as he encouraged partisans to exerts all collective and comprehensive efforts in sustaining the party.
Speaking earlier, the Director for Political Affairs at NEC, Mr. Ignatius Wesseh, lauded members of MOVEE for their smooth democratic process.
“We are here to observe your special proceedings. Convention processes are true tenants of a flourishing democracy. I want to thank MOVEE for following track of real democracy.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the CDC, Mr. Janga Augustus Kowo, said the CDC is strong, vibrant and still alive.
Chairman Kowo pointed out that the strength of the CDC comes from its constituent members including MOVEE.
He assured partisans of a strong comeback in 2029, noting that CDC will take state power again owing to what he termed as “miserable failure” of the UP.
“CDC is strong, vibrant and is still alive. The strength of the CDC comes from its constituent members. The UP has miserably failed all of its promises made. It is clear that it has no plan to move the country forward. They came to power by accident. The country is moving this far because the UP is only bent on removing CDC Speakers. We are here to tell you to organize to boot the UP out of power. This requires planning. The national political discourse will be strong if you are strong,” added the CDC Chairman.
Meanwhile, some of the individuals elected to national positions on white ballots are: Mr. Prince Mehn; National Chairman, Mr. Abraham Nyumah; Vice Chairman for Administration, Mr. Johnson. Wiah; Vice Chair For Recruitment and Mobilization, Mr. Jeremiah Eddison Paye; Secretary General, Mr. Darius Doe; Vice Chair for Inter party and NEC Affairs, Mr. Matthew Shann; Vice Chair for International Affairs, Mr. Jenkins Nagbe; Vice Chair for Planning, Policy and Research and Madam Rosetta Jones; Vice Chair for Inter-governmental Affairs.
