Jefferson Koijee, Mayor of the city of the Liberian capital Monrovia, was over the weed-end elected as the national Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change, CDC, member of the ruling party of the republic of Liberia.
Out of 370 votes, Mayor Koijee obtained 276 votes against 91 votes for his opponent while 3 votes were invalidated.
The newly elected SG of the CDC commended his opponent Prince Krekplah who earlier congratulated Mayor Koijee for his victory.
“I want to commend my opponent Prince Kreplah for congratulating me and he can be assured that I will count on him to move our party forward.” Mayor Korjee told Prince Krekplah.
The Loed Mayor then extended his salutations to the President who was overwhelmingly re-elected as standard bearer, Chairman Mulbah Morlu, as well as all those 370 delegates who made it as their duty to grace the occasion by their presence.
“Congratulations to President George M. Weah who got re-elected as Standar bearer with all the 370 delegates voting him overwhelmingly. Congratulations to chairman Mulbah K. Morlu as well for his re-election and to all my colleagues who got elected with me last night. Please be reminded that we were elected to deliver the people’s mandate and we shouldn’t fall short of that.
My heartfelt appreciation to all partisans from across the country for the free, fair and transparent election. A few years back when I was elected as Chairman of the Revolutionary National Youth League, I made a solemn commitment that we will ensure to escape opposition life and with God above we did. I have come once more to recommit myself to delivering the people mandate in 2023.” Jefferson Koijee said.
The Secretary general of the CDC re-committed the party to a free tuition in public universities and the WASSCE program.
“A mandate where we will ensure to sustain the no tuition payment at public universities and maintain a digital learning facility. A mandate where we will continue to maintain the free WASSCE program, road construction, and peace and to do so we must give President Weah a resounding victory in 2023. I want to commend all young people in and out of the country who supported me when I was a youth chairman. Special recognition to those young people in the opposition who support my quest to unite the young people in 2017 under one umbrella as a political party youth league. As I have the opportunity to be elevated today as National Secretary General, I will appreciate you accord the next person who will be the Youth Chairman all the necessary support.” Jefferson Koijee said.
Finally, he extended a hand of encouragement to his friends in opposition, asking then to muster that courage that will create a constructive political environment, such courage that made all to celebrate the goal scored by Timothy Weah at the world cup.
“To our friends in the opposition, we want to extend our hands to you in encouraging a more constructive political environment for the betterment of our country. An environment that witnessed the mustering of courage on the part of all of you yesterday to celebrate Tim Weah’s goal at the ongoing World Cup. We hope you muster the same courage to celebrate Liberia passing the MCC’s scorecard which isn’t a personal achievement for the government alone but for the people of Liberia.” Mayor Koijee concluded.
